"Shamus O'Brien"

As recorded by Mr. Fred Woodruff

12 Dec 1941

Lincoln, AR

Oh sweet is the smile of the beautiful moon
Which peeks through the curtains of night
And the voice of a nightingale singing his tune
As stars seems to shine with delight

Nature now lingers in silence reposed
The sweet breath of summer is gone
I sit and I wonder if Shamus here knows
How sad and unhappy I am

I'll smile when you smile I'll weep when you weep
I'll give you a kiss for a kiss
And all these fond vows I have made you I'll keep
What more could I promise than this

The sea has its bright and its beautiful charms
Your heart wouldn't leave it for me
Oh why did I let you get out of my arms
Like a bird that was caged and is free

Shamus O'Brien I'm loving you yet
My heart is still trusting and kind
It was you who first took it and can you forget
The love for another you'll find

No if you won't it with sorrow or pain
I will then have a duty to do
Just bring it to me I'll mend it again
And trust it dear Shamus to you
