"Horse-Trader's Song"

As recorded by Mr. Fred Woodruff

12 Dec 1941

Lincoln, AR
In the following text, the burden is simply the words "I've been around the world", which occurs at the end of every chorus.
Each chorus consists of a repeated couplet, another couplet, and the burden. To simplify things I've just written out every line, not omitting the repetition.

It's do you know those horse traders
It's do you know their plan
It's do you know those horse traders
It's do you know their plan
Their plan it is for to snide you
And get whatever they can
I've been around the world

They'll send their women from house to house
To get whatever they can
They'll send their women from house to house
To get whatever they can
Oh yander she comes a-running boys
With a hog jaw in each hand
I've been around the world

It's look in front of our horses boys
Oh yander comes a man
It's look in front of our horses boys
Oh yander comes a man
If I don't get to snide him
I won't get nary dram
I've been around the world

Oh now we stop for supper boys
We found a creek at last
Oh now we stop for supper boys
We found a creek at last
Oh now we stop for supper
To turn out on the grass
I've been around the world

Go saddle up the snides boys
And hitch them to the rack
Go saddle up your snides boys
And hitch them to the rack
The first man that gets some
I'll pays to take them back
I've been around the world

Come on now boys
Lets go get a drink of gin
Come on now boys
Lets go get a drink of gin
For yander comes the women boys
To bring us to the kinks again
I've been around the world
